PBX Voice Engineer

Position Description: Installs, repairs, maintains and modifies the University's telecommunications telephone system, voice network equipment, telephone switchroom equipment, outside cable plant, and related telecommunications cabling and wiring infrastructure. Provides project management for implementation of services and associated telecommunication equipment. Interfaces with vendors, telephone companies, and university staff to resolve and troubleshoot problems and phone orders. Coordinates inventory ordering process. Repairs or sends equipment out for repairs; maintains PBX inventory, records and documentation. Evaluates and recommends telecommunications system software and hardware. Assists in implementing and maintaining database for PBX and accounting systems. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong customer service skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in related field OR four years' experience in a telecommunication environment, which must include repairs, moves, adds and changes of telephony equipment. Two years' experience maintaining a large cable plant both PBX and VoIP environments. Previous experience in inventory control, shipping and receiving of equipment. Previous experience maintaining and supporting voicemail systems. Proficient working with PCs and Microsoft Office Suite.
Self-starter, detail-oriented with proven ability to work independently. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to see colors, lift 40 pounds, and work in confined spaces. Ability and willingness to work some irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls.

Preferred Qualifications: NEC certification or experience on NEC SV9500 system. BICSI Technician or RCDD Certification or willingness to achieve. Familiarity with battery backup systems. Work experience using Fluke fiber and copper testing equipment. Familiarity with a Unified Communication Environment
