Database Developer
£40-60k per annum

We are partnering with a well established company in Bristol who are looking for a Database Developer due to expansion.

The Database Developer's role is to develop and maintain databases across the organisation, while ensuring high levels of data availability. To influence the design decisions to improve applications and to make sure best practice guidelines are being followed.

You will initially be involved on working on a large data warehousing project where open source technologies seem to be preferred. Currently MySQL is being used although the newly appointed developer can suggest new ways of working and other databases which can be considered - you will be assessing whole situation. You may come from a SQL Server or even an Oracle background and you will be prepared to put your own spin on this role and suggest ways of improving everything data focused in the company.

We are not looking for a DBA, you will be an experienced database developer who perhaps has worked with a various different databases throughout your career and you would be able to take a consultative approach in this post.

Role and Responsibilities

*Design stable, reliable and effective databases
*Optimize and maintain Legacy systems
*Modify databases according to requests and perform tests
*Solve database usage issues and malfunctions
*Liaise with developers to improve applications and establish best practices
*Creation and maintenance of technical documentation
*Provide data management support to users
*Ensure all database programs meet company and performance requirements
*Research and suggest new database products, services and protocols
*Ensure all database systems meet business and performance requirements.
*Produce ad-hoc queries and develop reports to support business needs.
*Development and maintenance of Data Warehouse.
*Implementation of data dashboards to display data in differing formats.

Essential Skills

*Excellent SQL and database design skills, ideally with some MySQL experience.
*Proven work experience as a Database developer
*Experience in Performance Tuning
*Experience modelling/designing/deploying database solution
*Delivering software using Agile methods (scrum, XP, etc)
*In-depth understanding of data management (eg permissions, recovery, security and monitoring)
*Familiarity working with Java (desirable), specifically with Hibernate
*Excellent analytical and organization skills
*An ability to understand Front End users' requirements and a problem-solving attitude
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*Being Self-Motivated

Desirable Skills

*Experience with Postgres, Oracle, SQL Server
*Experience with GIT
*Experience with using JasperReports
*Familiarity with AWS or other cloud services
