Job Description

Transaction tax

We provide a wide range of tax and consulting services to a broad cross-section of clients, from PE houses and their portfolio companies to owner managed businesses and housing associations.

By being involved at the outset of a transaction we can provide comprehensive advice to minimise the tax exposure, considering all the business tax, VAT, international and employee issues as appropriate. Following the transaction, we can proactively leverage the opportunities and relationships identified on the deal to win post-deal and ongoing client work.

Purpose of Role

Working with the wider Transactions Services team to support clients on the tax aspects of M&A and capital transactional activity, together with support on the ongoing tax position for portfolio companies.

Key responsibilities:

Client work

  • Building and maintaining key client relationships by delivering excellent client service;
  • Managing the successful delivery of tax projects, ensuring technical excellence and a commercial approach is taken;
  • Supporting on tax due diligence including reviewing businesses for existing and potential tax issues from both a buy-side and sell-side perspective;
  • Supporting on tax structuring to help clients ensure their operations are structured in a tax efficient manner eg steps to ensure tax efficient acquisitions or disposals for clients buying/selling businesses and implications of entity and shareholder level taxes;
  • Supporting with pre and post deal services, including assisting clients with pre-acquisition re-structuring and implementing new tax planning ideas.

Staff Management and Development

  • Liaising with senior team members on projects and client account development
  • Manage delivery on sections of large projects/entirety of smaller jobs
  • Develop junior staff through delegation and on-the-job training
  • Work collaboratively with peers in the team and across firm to ensure a joined-up approach.

Practice Development

  • Involved in business development activities/profile-raising.
  • Identifying and driving opportunities - use insights gained from knowledge sharing sessions, technical training and existing projects to develop new opportunities.
  • Beginning to build your own client and internal relationships; actively supporting cross-referral efforts.

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA) and/or CTA (or breadth of knowledge equivalent to CTA, eg law qualification)

Key Experience/Skills:

  • Proficient in UK corporate tax gained within the profession and/or industry
  • Client driven and commercially-minded
  • Motivated team player with a flexible attitude
  • Excellent communicator
