This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Emergency Services, Nova Scotia Health, the Registered Nurse works to full scope of practice as an independent practitioner within an inter-professional and collaborative team, providing holistic (addressing bio, psycho, social, cultural and spiritual needs), and comprehensive care for individuals, families, groups, populations and communities across the continuum of care. The RN provides leadership and applies advanced nursing knowledge within specific practice settings, and in-depth nursing knowledge, skills and judgment in providing care to all individuals (includes families, groups, populations and communities).

The R.N. practices within the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia, CRNNS Standards of Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses and the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, is responsible and accountable for the nursing care of an assigned group of patients and their families; provides guidance and leadership to peers and other staff; works in a collaborative relationship with colleagues, unit staff, students and members of related health disciplines.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Registered or eligible for licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS)
  • Current BLS or CPR Certification required
  • ACLS required or willing to obtain within orientation period
  • Minimum one (1) year previous experience in an Emergency Department or Emergency Nursing Program required
    • Where there are no applicants who meet the above qualification, consideration may be given to applicants who agree to complete further training within two years' of hire date
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENCP (Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course) required or willing to obtain
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required or willing to obtain
  • Cardiac Monitoring, CTAS, MH First Aid, NVCI
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients/residents, families, other health care provide and staff while demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth
  • Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making skills in crisis situations and be accountable for decisions
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices and organizational health
  • Basic computer skills
  • Physical and mental capabilities to perform duties of the position
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

  • Temporary Full-Time 100%; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Approximate one year assignment, commencing as soon as possible
  • Shifts include days, nights, weekends and holidays

Salary Information

$34.3461 - $40.4660 hourly
$41.8822 hourly with 25 years RN experience
