Snr Content Designer (Contract)

Location: Edinburgh, Scotland Country: UK

Snr Content Designer| 6 Month Contract | (Inside IR35) | Hybrid (Edinburgh/Glasgow) | Starting ASAP

Day Rate: £Market Rate

Job Description:

Harvey Nash's Public Sector Client is looking to recruit a Snr Content Manager. This role will support the Shared Service Programme Accessibility Workstream ensuring that users are involved in transformation and design and deliver improved corporate services that meet their needs.

The Accessibility Workstream brings together user research, service design and content design skillsets with technical accessibility expertise. The mission is to deliver solutions that are accessible. Good content design is a critical part of configuring off the shelf systems to meet the needs of our users, but also in developing supporting content and guidance to help users who experience barriers using new corporate systems.

Main Duties:

Agile working

  • Work in agile teams and help them to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work, define scope and agree a minimum viable experience (MVE).
  • Adapt, reflect and be responsive to feedback.

Content concepts and prototyping

  • Choose the best option to make content accessible to different audiences and assistive technologies, and show proposed approaches to content design through the creation of prototypes and content plans.
  • Explain how the pattern choice or need for a new pattern, publishing approach and metadata will shape how the content will be published and managed.

Stakeholder relationship management

  • Negotiate with stakeholders and influence accessibility decisions, dealing with challenging situations and removing blockers.
  • Act as a point of escalation if stakeholder relationships break down or to support more junior members of staff.

Strategic thinking

  • Create and implement content strategies and processes, balancing the business objectives and needs of users.

User focus

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to shape and record design decisions and design debt across complex user journeys, creating and advocating for content that meets the needs of users, including users who are disabled, neurodiverse or use assistive technology.
  • Set performance measures for content to evidence how the design meets accessibility regulations and user needs, and in turn supports business objectives.

User-centred content design

  • Use data, research and evidence to plan, write, design and edit content across multiple channels that meets accessibility regulations, content styles and standards.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring the quality of content from more junior colleagues (if you have them), coaching and guiding them to improve.
  • Set review dates and monitor the effectiveness of content to make continuous improvements.
  • Engage with and contribute to the Scottish Government content design community of practice.

Working in the Corporate Transformation Directorate is an 'active learning' experience that requires creative thinking, problem solving and providing clear solutions. It will include activities such as planning, researching, creating, thinking critically, building, accessibility testing, and reporting. It will require different skills and experience. One requirement is constant, however - a positive creative approach and attitude to change. This environment of changing activity is a huge opportunity for career development. Successful applicants will be supported to develop their skills and experience within the organisation.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Your experience of working in an agile team and using agile tools allows you to use an iterative and flexible approach to rapidly deliver content.
  • Your experience of creating content prototypes and patterns, and using content management systems, allows you to create prototypes that show value to others and publish content.
  • Your experience of negotiating and influencing stakeholders allows you to manage expectations, influence decisions, handle objections and deal with challenging situations.
  • Your experience of leading the design and implementation of content strategy for specific areas of work, allows you to lead and direct strategic content design projects.
  • Your experience of working with user stories, user insights and creating content that can be measured as effectively meeting the needs of users, allows you to clearly explain why and how decisions have been made and when further changes are needed.
  • Your experience of leading the design of content and using data to review, evaluate and improve it, allows you to direct and critique the content design work of others.

This role has been deemed Inside IR35 by the client. Applicants must hold, or be happy to apply for, a valid Basic Disclosure Scotland. Please click the link to apply.
